The Power of Surrender in Human/Horse Connection
By Eva Jones and Calissa
Surrendering doesn’t mean giving up. It means consciously continuing or even just trying to release resistance.
In my work with horses, I have come to find that horses respond to clarity, and clarity only comes when we stop forcing and start allowing. The moment we push, brace, or insist, something closes, and we create even more resistance. When we soften, something opens. Horses are incredibly sensitive to energy; they can feel even the slightest shift. And they are extraordinary because they mirror it back to us we can learn so much about ourselves through them. When resistance meets resistance, the result is often confrontation.
Yet when we choose to surrender instead of overpowering an obstacle, something remarkable happens.
We pause. We observe. We listen. We begin to see the situation with new eyes, and suddenly what once seemed impossible becomes clear. This is because the act of surrender allows new opportunities and ideas to appear. Surrender leads to awareness, which brings clarity, and from clarity comes joy.
I have found that this shift doesn’t just transform our relationships with horses it transforms our entire lives.
Surrender leads to awareness. Awareness brings clarity. And clarity brings joy.
Horses have shown me that surrender is a life skill.
Consider this: How often do we push for answers before they are ready to emerge? What becomes possible if, instead of pushing harder, we pause and see what manifests?
True partnership with a horse is not built through control. It is built through trust. And trust is born in surrender.
When we stop resisting, we stop exhausting ourselves. And in that openness, we discover something far greater than what force could ever produce.
We discover opportunity.
